How to change the default domain on IM and Presence / wrong IM address displayed

This article will demonstrate how to change the default domain in IM & Presence Server. The following information illustrate my environment:
     Call Manager (CUCM) ip address:192.168.1.22
     IM & Presence ip address:192.168.1.24
     DNS Server Domain:example.com

As you see in the picture below, the domain is being displayed wrong – displayed as gcc.local although our domain is example.com.

In Cisco Unified CM IM & Presence Administration, navigate to Presense>>Settings>>Advanced Configuration, to see the current default domain


To Change the default domain:
1- You must first stop the following services using the following commands or using IM & Presence Serviceability web interface.
   utils service stop Cisco Presence Engine
   utils service stop Cisco SIP Proxy
   utils service stop Cisco XCP Router
   utils service stop Cisco Sync Agent
   utils service stop Cisco Client Profile Agent
 2- Navigate to Presense>>Settings>>Advanced Configuration, and change the default domain from gcc.local to example.com and click save, note that this process will take few minutes and if it didn’t take the change, you must change it one more time.

3- Start the Services again using the following commands or using IM & Presence Serviceability web interface.
   utils service start Cisco Presence Engine
   utils service start Cisco SIP Proxy
   utils service start Cisco XCP Router
   utils service start Cisco Sync Agent
   utils service start Cisco Client Profile Agent
4- The result is shown in the following pictures. The first picture from IM&P server and the second picture from the CUCM server.

Cisco CUCM and IM and Presence and Unity / show Memory Utilization

In this article will demonstrate how to:
show memory utilization cucm / call manager
show memory utilization unity connection / CUC
show memory utilization IM and Presence

This command displays Memory usage information at the time the command is run.
admin:show tech runtime memory

RTP Vs. RTCP

This article demonstrates on the difference between RTP and RTCP.

  • RTP is abbreviation for Real-time Transport Protocol and operates at layer 4 (Transport Layer)
  • When two devices try to establish an audio sessions, RTP starts operating and choose an odd random number from 16384 to 32767 range.
  • RTCP is abbreviation for Real-time Transport Control Protocol
  • When the two devices established a call, RTCP starts operating and creates a separate session over udp by using the odd number from the above range.
  • If the RTP session uses 16388, then the RTCP will use the following number of the even RTP port number, means will use 16389.

Primary Function of RTP:

  • Adds Sequence number to the header information: allows the called party to put the packets back in order.
  • Adds time stamp to the header information:allows the called party to use a buffer. How and Why? to remove the jitter - delay variations - between the packet, and thus give a smooth audio playout.

Primary Function of RTCP is statistics reporting, it gives the participants of the call statistics such aspacket count, packet delay, packet loss, jitter. Note thatthe cisco CME router can log and report this statistics, so it will help you to determine the issues that causes call problems.
